Dental Homecare
Helping build healthy habits starts with simple routines at home—like brushing twice a day with a soft toothbrush, using a rice-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, and making brushing time fun! Early dental care sets the stage for strong teeth and happy smiles as kids grow.
For playful tips, videos, and activities made just for little ones, visit the SmileHub from Healthy Teeth Healthy Children (HTHC). It’s packed with resources to help families and caregivers make oral health part of everyday life—starting from the very first tooth.
Nutrition Related to Dental Health
What children eat and drink during the day directly affects their growing bodies—and their teeth! Sugary snacks and drinks can lead to cavities, while tooth-friendly choices like fresh fruits, whole grains, and water help protect little smiles.
Early learning centers play a key role in guiding families toward better choices. The Pennsylvania Coalition for Oral Health (PCOH) offers a helpful guide for Packing a Healthy Lunch that includes tips on choosing nutritious foods and drinks that support oral health. Share these two resource with caregivers to encourage lunches that fuel learning and keep teeth strong!
Locating Dental Care
For many children, especially those in underserved communities, finding a dental provider can be a major barrier to maintaining oral health. Untreated dental issues can lead to pain, missed school days, and long-term health complications. Helping families locate affordable, accessible dental care is a critical step in preventing these outcomes and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
